SBC-Indianapolis, #1

The Pastors' Conference is over but not without some noteworthy comments coming from the various messages. Though I didn't hear it myself, I heard on good authority that Charles Lowrey actually said in his message that God told him to get "baptized again" as an encouragement for others to get baptized who might be hesitant...and he was advocating this for the pastors to whom he was preaching!

I also have reason to believe that Wednesday morning the Resolutions Committee will bring out a resolution dealing with church membership issues, but that what they bring out probably will not have a statement calling for repentance. If that is so, then I will, as I have indicated previously, try to amend the resolution appropriately to include a simply call for repentance. I have also been given an assurance by the author of another of the resolutions submitted on this subject that he will, if he can get to a microphone, speak in support of such an amendment.

Stay tuned. I will try to give updates as I am able.

Well, isn't that cute. Maybe another pastor could shave his head.

That sounds plain nutty.

I wasn't there and I haven't down-loaded any of the Pastor's Conference sermons yet, BUT, perhaps he meant that he was never truly converted the first time he was baptized. Surely, this is what he meant. He was getting his baptism in order.

Otherwise, this is extremely horrible teaching!

J.D.,

Since I was in the room when he made the statement, I can positively assure you that Tom's assessment is on target. I actually understood him to say that he had done this with multiple people on multiple occasions. Now, it is possible the shock may have had some effect on my memory . . .

Tom,

I'm very curious. Yesterday, very early, Ronnie Floyd posted a glowing endorsement for Johnny Hunt for president. When I checked later in the evening for his take on the events of the day, I noticed that endorsement had been deleted. Do you have any idea based on the happenings of the day why that happened? Just very intrigued.

I am glad God has given the answer to our baptism numbers. We just baptize all members again. That should get the numbers up. We may even go after the 60% that we can not find and convence them to be baptized again.

When we lose confidence in the Word and Spirit to convict believers of unrepented sin (including a stubborn refusal to be baptized) we are prone to abuse even the holy things like the ordinances of our Lord. We must pray, weeping, for this brother and for those who might follow his example (Jude 22-23).

I thought Beth Moore was the only SBC favorite that's authorized to use phrases like "God told me..."
